WHITE PLAINS – A Peekskill resident who pled guilty to stabbing another man to death, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision.
Matthew Torres, 18, of Peekskill pled guilty to manslaughter and assault for killing Joaquin Salazar on November 28, 2020. At 9:15 that night, several teens gathered at China Pier in Peekskill to settle a dispute that began on social media.
Torres, who was 17 at the time, stabbed Salazar several times during the exchange.
Salazar, a Peekskill resident, was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he was pronounced dead.
A second victim, who Torres stabbed once, was also taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.
Peekskill Police and State Police investigated and arrested Torres.
