Parolee caught stealing copper pipes from bungalow

THOMPSON – A 44-year-old parolee from Monticello is spending time in the Sullivan County Jail for cutting copper pipes out of a bungalow in the Town of Thompson.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at around 10:50 a.m. on Monday, December 13 at the Sunny Forest Bungalow Colony.

Deputies found an open door at one of the units at 127 Old Liberty Road and a search located Joshua Whidbee cutting the pipes in the basement with a saw.

He took off but was apprehended running across a parking lot at the colony.

He was charged with felonies of burglary and criminal mischief and misdemeanors of resisting arrest and possession of burglar’s tools.

Sheriff Mike Schiff asks residents to remain vigilant this holiday season and report any suspicious activity immediately to 911.
