MIDDLETOWN – The Build Back Better Act, which passed the House and awaits Senate approval, will cap senior citizens’ out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs at $2,000 per year.

Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) brought that news to the Middletown Senior Center on Monday.

“It also allows seniors to pay those costs in installments so they can, instead of having to do it all at once, pay it out of the type of fixed incomes that so many seniors are on. That one thing is going to be a big help, but equally as importantly, we are finally going to begin negotiating the costs of prescription drugs through the Medicare program – not for every drug and not as much as we would like, but it is a very important start,” he said.

The bill will also cap the copay for insulin at $35.

The measure will also provide $150 billion to expand home-based care services for seniors.
