FALLSBURG – Fifty-two-year-old James Greco of Franklin Lakes, NJ was arrested and arraigned Monday on a sealed indictment from the Sullivan County grand jury charging him with vehicular manslaughter after a two-car wreck on Route 42 on May 21, 2021.  Five people were injured and one victim eventually died from their injuries.

According to Fallsburg Police Chief Simmie Williams, the indictment says that Greco was operating a pickup truck while impaired by the drugs of fentanyl, alprazolam, and/or oxycodone when he crashed into another vehicle, killing the driver of the other vehicle.  The account of the crash can be read HERE.

Sullivan County Court Judge Jim Farrell remanded Greco to the Sullivan County Jail on Monday in lieu of bail in the amounts of $20,000 cash, $40,000 secured bond or $60,000 partially secured bond.

“On public highways, we trust each other to keep our communities safe. My agency is committed to enforcing traffic laws to prevent and deter dangerous situations from developing, and to investigating and holding responsible those who violate that trust and undermine the safety and confidence of all those who travel on our roads,” said Fallsburg Police Chief Simmie Williams, who thanked the state police for their assistance.

“While the results of this investigation will be brought to light in a court of law, I am grateful for the continued partnership between my office and our police partners, including the Town of Fallsburg Police Department and New York State Police, and all of the emergency personnel who responded to this scene,” said District Attorney Meagan Galligan.

Greco is scheduled to appear in Judge’s Farrell’s court on February 1, 2022.
