MIDDLETOWN – The proposal to redevelop the fire-damaged O&W Station in Middletown will be moving forward now that funding components are either committed or anticipated.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the total cost will be $11.6 million with the vast majority coming from state and federal sources with the city contributing $1 million.

The city is also working on a project-labor agreement to rebuild the facility.

“We have retained a firm to do a feasibility study of having a project-labor agreement and it looks very favorable now that the city will save considerable money by going that route,” he said.

A PLA would also mean local labor will be used on the rebuild.

The city has also hired an engineer to begin the design work on the redevelopment.

In addition to office space, the building will be used for an education program for children of migrant families.
