Bail reform allows man to steal two cars in two days

POUGHKEEPSIE – Bail reform has allowed an individual to be caught in a stolen car on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, a day after he was caught in a stolen car on Rose Street in the city.  Thirty-three-year-old Franz Bakter, a LaGrange resident was given appearance tickets after both crimes.

Police say Bakter stole a car in the city earlier in the day on Saturday.  While on routine patrol Saturday night, police observed the stolen vehicle being operated by Bakter on Worrall Avenue.  Police performed a traffic stop and took the subject into custody without incident.  He was processed at police headquarters and issued an appearance ticket for possession of a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle had not been damaged and was returned to the registered owner.
City of Poughkeepsie police are reminding motorists to secure their vehicles and remove the keys when not in operation.
