POUGHKEEPSIE – The man convicted of killing a veteran who was living at Liberty Station on North Clinton Street in Poughkeepsie has been sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison.  Anthony Jackson Jr. of Poughkeepsie is going to prison for murdering Anthony Gray.

Dutchess County Court Judge Jessica Segal handed down the sentence in her courtroom on Thursday.  Speaking to Jackson before sending him to prison, the judge told him that, up until Thursday, the case had been about him and his choices, before admonishing him.  “Today, from my perspective, it is about Anthony Gray.”

Speaking of the victim, Segal pointed out that “Anthony Gray was a member of this community and he mattered, and you decided that day that $100 was worth more to you than Mr. Gray’s life.”  Noting that Jackson had family members in the courtroom, she continued by telling him “You traded your life for $100.”

Anthony Jackson, Jr., 22, was convicted by a jury for the stabbing death of Marine Corps veteran Anthony Gray.  The murder took place in October of 2020, outside of Liberty Station.  City of Poughkeepsie police detectives said that Jackson argued with the victim over a debt of $100 from a previous transaction and then stabbed the victim to death.

Jackson was convicted on charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a jury on November 4 of this year.  The full account of the murder can be found HERE.
