SUFFERN – A husband and wife who had just left the annual Suffern holiday parade were injured by a hit-and-run driver Saturday evening.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Orange and Lafayette Avenues when the couple stopped to pick up some dinner and were walking back to their car.
Friends said the husband was struck in the arm before the vehicle struck the wife, knocking her to the ground. She suffered head injuries, police said.
The wife is believed to be in her mid-50s, the husband in his early 70s. Both were rushed to nearby Good Samaritan Hospital.
A friend of the wife, Paula Moffitt, heard a ‘thud’, turned to look and saw her friend hit the ground. “It was horrible,” she said.
The driver of what was believed to be a SUV, kept driving south on Orange Avenue toward the New Jersey border.

The only evidence left at the scene was a sideview mirror that was knocked off.
This is the second hit-and-run accident in Rockland County in a little more than a week.
Last week, an 82-yer-old man was struck and killed by a fleeing vehicle on Route 9W in Haverstraw.
The driver was caught and arrested less than a day later.
