POUGHKEEPSIE – Former City of Poughkeepsie Council Chairperson Gwen Johnson, who later served on the county legislature, is running for mayor of Poughkeepsie in 2023.
City of Poughkeepsie Democratic Committee Chairperson Nina Boyd made the announcement in an email to committee members on Thursday morning.
The email from Boyd said that no other candidates have told her they were interested in running for the position. Boyd also expressed optimism for Johnson’s campaign, saying “I believe Mrs. Johnson has great name recognition and will be an asset to our Democratic party.”
Mrs. Johnson was unavailable for comment when reached by Mid-Hudson News on Thursday afternoon.
