MONTICELLO – There are two taxicab companies in Monticello operating with a total of 31 medallions and as one of those companies is being bought out, village officials want better service for their residents.

Mayor George Nikolados said a big problem with service is wait times.

“There are times when people are waiting up to three hours during busy times. Also, some cabs are being used for both cabs and medical transportation. We would like to see medallion cabs stay in the village at all times. If they have a run to Westchester , we have one less cab in the village for four or five hours,” he said.

The mayor said the Sullivan County public bus system, that includes service in Monticello, is a plus for the village.
