State Police guard murder scene on snowy evening

FERNDALE – State Police are investigating the murder of 90-year-old Liberty resident Louisa Butler and have charged a 75-year-old man with the crime.

Police responded to a 911 call on Monday, November 29, just before 7 p.m. The caller reported a possible homicide at 305 Harris Road in the Town of Liberty.  When troopers arrived, they located the victim dead inside of the residence.

As a result of the investigation conducted by the State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, James Brodie of Liberty was arrested for the murder.

Brodie was charged with murder, arraigned in the Town of Thompson Court, and remanded to Sullivan County Jail with no bail.  His next court appearance is scheduled for December 2, 2021.
