Congressman Tom Suozzi
NASSAU COUNTY – Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-NY) from Long Island announced on Monday that he will seek the Democratic nomination to be the next governor of NY.  He is the fourth Democrat to enter the race, joining Governor Kathy Hochul, NYS Attorney General Letitia James, and NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
Suozzi, 59, served as mayor of the Long Island town of Glen Cove from 1994-2001 before becoming Nassau County Executive in 2002.  He held the position for two terms as a Democrat in the Republican-leaning county.
The Long Island Democrat considers himself a “commonsense Democrat who gets things done,” and said he has “a bold new vision for what the state needs.”
Suozzi became the Congressman for NY’s 3rd District in 2016 and was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.  NYC Mayor-elect Eric Adams had offered Suozzi the Deputy-Mayor position recently but Suozzi turned it down in anticipation of his gubernatorial bid.
