PORT JERVIS – The annual Christkindlmarkt event took place in Port Jervis on Sunday in a section of the city’s downtown.

The event was preceded by early morning snow which covered the ground and started the day a little slower than usual. However, the snow and seasonably chilly air did not stop the hundreds who stopped by throughout the day to browse the German marketplace’s outdoor and indoor displays.

There were many food vendors with a wide assortment of delicious items to taste, and enjoyable entertainment for all.  Entertainers included Hilby The Skinny German Juggle Boy, Germania Almrausch Dancers, The Jingleheimer German Band, and the first ever Port Jervis Tuba Band.

The city’s Christkindlmarkt is sponsored annually by the Port Jervis Tourism Board as part of kicking off the holiday season of shopping and visiting the businesses in the city.

The event followed an official Christmas tree lighting ceremony and arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus in the downtown promenade on Saturday evening
