POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department spent a portion of Tuesday and Wednesday shopping for Thanksgiving dinner ingredients and then delivering them throughout the city.  The gesture brought smiles to eight families.
The firefighters, members of IAFF Local 596, bought full meals for eight families and the crews delivered them to the families in time for Thanksgiving.
“We are always looking to help this city and being able to provide for a few families is one of our favorite undertakings,” said Local 596 President Nick Bucher.  The program is managed by Lieutenant Paul Bucher who develops the list of families from the recommendations received from community leaders.  “The program received assistance from Councilwoman Natasha Cherry and Councilwoman-elect Debra Long, and we’re thankful for their help,” said the Lieutenant.
