Communicated Content – The benefits of hybrid learning cannot be understated, especially when we consider today’s college students who may be working parents who are balancing a career and life while pursuing higher education.

These days, the flexibility of a 21st-century hybrid learning environment now provides learners of all ages access to colleges and universities, which wasn’t always the case before online learning became available. Here are three ways to thrive in a hybrid education environment:

1. Establish a Routine and Take Advantage of Virtual Resources

Students tend to thrive in environments that offer structure and abundant resources. To that end, establishing a routine will allow you to meet deadlines. Before classes begin, make certain you identify how to access assignments and additional support by spending a few minutes getting familiar with the course’s online setup. Create a weekly or daily schedules that include designating a certain amount of time for completing homework, readings, required discussions, and/or group participation.

2. Determine Where You’ll Best Succeed in a Hybrid

While in-person classes may allow for a hands-on learning approach and greater face-to-face interaction, the hybrid model certainly provides greater flexibility. This concept applies to whichever educational path you choose to pursue. For example, say you’re good with numbers and want to obtain an online accounting degree before entering the professional world of accountancy. In a hybrid learning environment, you’ll spend part of your time in an online classroom where you may comment on a discussion thread, complete and submit assignments for the week, or communicate with your instructor and/or classmates. The in-person classroom component will likely be the place for activities such as group projects, discussions, and receiving instructor feedback.

3. Maintain Good Communication

Staying on top of your coursework and being able to engage effectively with instructors and classmates is integral for successfully navigating a hybrid learning environment. With time being equally divided between in-person and online learning, you’ll need to make sure you aren’t missing important communications that are directed through email and posts in the online classroom. Check your email every day and maintain a good rapport with other students who you may be able to turn to for advice and support. Additionally, communicate with your instructors early on if you have questions or concerns about assignments, and take advantage of in-person meetings where you’re able to have more personal interactions with your classmates.

Stay Focused and Adaptable

Perhaps one of the most effective ways to thrive in a hybrid learning environment is by staying adaptable. Keeping a good attitude and maintaining a steady focus on the tasks at hand are essential elements in the hybrid classroom. Remember to take advantage of virtual resources, maintain solid communication with your instructors and peers, establish routines for success, and decide which activities are orchestrated best for optimal learning and engagement.
