WALDEN – The Walden Fire District has received a $50,000 grant to purchase personal protective equipment with safety upgrades over previous versions.

The grant was provided by State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall).

Chief Michael McNamee said they will be able to purchase 80 particulate blocking firefighting hoods that “will allow us to issue a hood to each of our 38 interior certified members, and retain a ready cache to be exchanged immediately after a fire.”

The department will also purchase 13 sets of structural firefighting turnout gear. “This has allowed us to schedule complete turnout gear replacement for all of our interior certified members in five years,” the chief said.
