CLAVERACK – A 24-year-old Greenport man was arrested by State Police on Tuesday after he led them on a short car chase that ended in a crash.

Troopers say they attempted to pull over a 2001 Toyota truck operated by Joshua Charron on the southbound side of Route 9H that was suspected of involvement in a robbery and shoplifting that happened at Lowe’s and Kohls in Greenport earlier in the day.  Charron failed to stop for the police and sped away.

Charron led police on a short pursuit that ended when he ran a red light at the intersection with State Route 66 and struck another vehicle. Non-life-threatening injuries were reported at the scene and all parties involved were transported to Albany Medical Center including Charron’s passenger.

State Police say that the investigation determined Charron had stolen items from Kohl’s and forcibly stole items from Lowe’s before fleeing the shopping plaza.

He was arrested on felony robbery charges and misdemeanors of criminal possession of stolen property, driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.

Charron was arraigned before the Town of Claverack Court on Tuesday and remanded to the Columbia County Jail pending a future court date.
