POUGHKEEPSIE – A 13-year-old Poughkeepsie resident is in a secure detention facility after a
. He is charged with criminal possession of a weapon after police found a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his possession. A 15-year-old was also taken into custody.
Police had responded to a shooting in the faculty parking lot of the high school at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday after receiving reports of shots fired. Witnesses indicated that two suspects had fled from the scene on foot towards Daniels Court. The area was cordoned off and a search began. An officer discovered the two teens in the backyard of a residence on Daniels Court. The two boys attempted to run and were chased by police officers who apprehended them.
The gun was found on the 13-year-old. The two teens were transported to the Juvenile Aid Bureau for further investigation. The younger suspect was processed and transferred to the secure detention facility. The investigation involving the 15-year-old is ongoing. Both teens could face additional charges. The names of the two suspects are being withheld because of their ages.
