POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Comptroller Robin Lois has hired a new Director of Audits after losing personnel to the COVID relief retirement incentive offered by the county between November 2020 and October of 2021.  Christopher DeMeo, a CPA with nearly 40 years of experience began his work on October 25, 2021.

DeMeo is a certified public accountant with nearly 40 years of experience in public accounting, non-profit accounting, and governmental accounting.  DeMeo has previously served as senior auditor for Westchester County, Controller for Westchester School for Special Children, and director of Risk Management for the Town of Greenwich.

According to Lois, the job description for DeMeo is to oversee the daily operation of the office’s audit and reporting function, supervise audit staff, monitor and maintain workflow among the staff, and assume the duties of the deputy comptroller, if the deputy is absent. DeMeo is responsible for researching, collecting, and providing information and providing confidential advice on internal control and auditing issues that will result in accounting and audit policy determinations.

“We are excited to have Chris on board with the hope of providing even greater results in the comptroller’s office with his experience and expertise,” said Comptroller Lois, who was recently reelected.

The auditor position that became vacant during COVID was reclassed to director of Auditor with approval by County Executive Marc Molinaro.  Lois pointed out that, as American Rescue Plan Act federal funds get delivered to the county, many positions throughout the county such as this one, are being reinstated.
