Hiker struck and killed crossing Palisades Parkway

STONY POINT – A 66-year-old Staten Island woman was struck and killed as she attempted to cross the Palisades Interstate Parkway at about 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 14.

State Police said Galina Surman was hiking with family and friends when they crossed the highway in Stony Point.

When police arrived on the scene, they observed someone performing life-saving measures; troopers assisted with attempting to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not impaired and there are no charges pending, police said.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Stony Point EMS, State Park Police, state park rangers, and Town of Stony Point Police.
