KINGSTON – Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan announced that the Ulster County Office Building at 244 Fair Street in Kingston and Veteran Services Agency at 5 Development Court in Kingston will be illuminated in green during Veterans Week, from November 7th-13th, in honor of the county’s 13,000 plus veterans.
Ulster County is participating in Operation Green Light, a collaboration between the New York State Association of Counties, New York State County Executive’s Association, the state’s County Veteran Service Officers’ Association, and the 62 counties.
“Operation Green Light is an important and impactful way for all of us to show support for our veterans,” Ryan said. “As county executive and as a combat veteran, I am proud that we will be lighting our County Office Building and Veteran Services Agency green this week and I ask members of the public and business owners to do the same.”
The mission of Operation Green Light is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, with a special emphasis on the veterans from the post-9/11 conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Operation Green Light is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges many veterans face and to highlight the resources available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.
Ulster County’s Veteran Services Agency provides support in obtaining medical, disability, pension, and education benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the New York State Department of Veteran Affairs. The county agency also helps with issues such as homelessness, burials, tax exemptions, employment, transportation, and the FAVOR discount card program. By shining a green light, veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
