POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is hosting “Coffee with a Cop” on Monday, November 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  The community is invited to sit with members of the Community Policing officers to share concerns and suggestions on how to make Poughkeepsie a safer city.  The gathering is taking place at the city’s Public Safety Building at 505 Main Street.

Community Policing Officer Mike Braren said the event is open to 25 participants due to limited space.  Members of the community that are interested in attending must reserve a spot by emailing Braren.  The email request needs to be sent to mbraren@cityofpoughkeepsie.com.

The “Coffee with a Cop” program takes place in towns and cities across the country. “It is a way for the public and members of the police department to sit down, put politics aside, and get to know one another on a more personal level,” said Braren.

Braren also pointed out that often, the community only gets to deal with police officers during stressful events.  “This is a more relaxed, stress-free setting which allows for better communication between the officers and the public.”

Coffee and donuts will be provided by the police department.
