New sheriffs elected in Putnam and Columbia counties

HUDSON VALLEY – Columbia County Sheriff David Bartlett failed in his bid for a third term.  He was soundly defeated by Donald Krapf, a sergeant and 23-year veteran of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.  Krapf, running as a Democrat captured 10,505 votes while Republican Bartlett garnered 8,647 votes.
“I’m proud of my work over the last eight years as your Sheriff and 37 years with the Sheriff’s Office, and I’m truly grateful for the brave men and women who I’ve served alongside,” Barlett said in admitting defeat.
In Putnam County, incumbent Sheriff Robert Langley, a Democrat was defeated by Republican Kevin McConville.  The challenger received 12,222 votes while Langley tallied 9,074 in his defeat.
