WHITE PLAINS – When Westchester County Executive George Latimer unveils his proposed $2.2 billion county budget for 2022 in a matter of days, it will include a $7 million reduction in the property tax levy.

The 2021 spending plan came in at $2.1 billion, but Latimer said the increase is largely the result of just under $100 million in federal pandemic relief funds.

The property tax levy continues to be reduced for the third year in a row, Latimer said.

“That number has gone down in the last two budgets by $1 million each year – in other words, we collected $1 million less in property taxes in the last two budgets,” he said. “This year, the budget that we will present to the board of legislators will further decrease the county property tax levy by $7 million.”

The proposed 2022 budget maintains all county services.

The board of legislators will have about one month to scrutinize the spending plan, making any adjustments it sees fit, before adopting it.
