New business robbed at gunpoint Friday evening

POUGHKEEPSIE – A new smoke shop on Main Street in Poughkeepsie was robbed at gunpoint Friday around 5:30 p.m.  Police are searching for the suspects.

 

The initial report by the clerk at the business indicated that two black men entered the business and displayed a handgun.  Police officials were unable to say if the subjects left the premises with any stolen money or property.

 

A K-9 unit from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene at approximately 5:50 p.m. to assist with the investigation.  A witness in the vicinity told Mid-Hudson News that they saw two men exit the building and run north on Roosevelt Avenue.  The K-9 unit was preparing to check the Roosevelt Avenue area in an attempt to locate the suspects.

 

No additional information has been made available.

 

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-451-7577.  City Police will pay $250 to anyone who provides information that leads to the recovery of an illegal gun and $500 for information that leads to an arrest of a person possessing an illegal gun. All callers will remain anonymous.
