Ulster County man charged with sexually abusing minor child

KINGSTON – The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Town of Ulster man on sexual abuse charges.

Douglas Whitaker, 68, of Ruby allegedly engaged in periodic unlawful sexual conduct with a juvenile victim since the spring of 2020 when the victim was under the age of 17.

He allegedly met the child on an online dating app.

Following the execution of a search warrant at his home, he was arrested on the evening of October 19.

Whitaker was charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual act and a misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $75,000 cash bail, $150,000 partially secured bond, or $300,000 fully secured bond.

An order of protection was also issued on behalf of the victim.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed.
