MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown has the largest population in Orange County, according to the new census figures, Mayor Joseph DeStefano announced.

Percentage-wise, Middletown was the fourth fastest-growing city in the state with a more than eight percent increase, he said.

“We made a real sincere effort, through Economic Development – Maria Bruni, Caitlin McNamara – to focus on getting people counted for the census. We know how important it is. We stressed with our residents that you participating in the census is going to result in the city receiving more state and federal funding and that is what is going to happen starting next year,” he said.

Middletown’s population count was 30,345, Newburgh’s was 28,856, and Port Jervis’ was 8,775.
