PINE ISLAND – Police from a number of area agencies were out overnight searching the Pine Island area of the Town of Warwick for a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting. The suspect was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, State Police said Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred late Saturday afternoon in the area of Newport Bridge Road and Furman Lane. Police had been called to a report of a man who had been shot lying in the middle of the road.
At midnight, a large police presence was still at the scene combing the area for a suspect and evidence.
