PINE PLAINS – A house in Pine Plains allegedly exploded into a fireball Wednesday evening, injuring one person and a second person was reported “missing” at the scene.  Firefighters from multiple agencies in Dutchess and Columbia Counties were summoned to 41 Hoffman Road around 8:00 p.m. for a house fire.

One neighbor described feeling an “explosion that shook the entire neighborhood”.

Officials say that one person was rescued and transported to a Poughkeepsie hospital with fire-related injuries.  A second person was reported to be “missing” according to 911 radio transmissions.  The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division was dispatched to the blaze.

A radio transmission from a Dutchess County fire official described the house as being “on the ground”, meaning the structure was leveled as a result of the possible explosion.

At least eight fire departments were operating at the scene and several other agencies were relocated to provide coverage for the departments at the fire.  Departments from over the border in Connecticut were also called into action.
