Pedestrian struck and killed by car in New Paltz

NEW PALTZ – A pedestrian was struck and killed as they walked on South Ohioville Road in New Paltz early Monday.

Town Police said the deceased, who they did not say was a man or woman, was in the northbound lane of the roadway at around 5:16 in the morning when they were struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on South Ohioville Road.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car remained on the scene, called 911 and fully cooperated with the investigation.

Police said there was no indication of alcohol or distraction contributing to the accident.

The investigation is continuing and anyone why may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the New Paltz Detective Division at 845-255-1357.

New Paltz Police were assisted at the scene by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, New Paltz Rescue Squad, New Paltz Fire Department and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
