Wawarsing traffic stop leads to arrests

WAWARSING – Two people were arrested on Route 52 in the Town of Wawarsing following a traffic stop.

While speaking to the driver during the stop at 5 p.m. on Thursday, troopers questioned the driver, Symone Quinones, 29, of Monticello and learned she was driving with a suspended license.

Troopers also interviewed the passenger, Jonathan Rodriguez, 30, of the Bronx, who was found in possession of a pair of plastic knuckles.

While speaking with troopers, he became verbally and physically resistant, fell on the ground and attempted to remove something from his pants, later determined to be 37 grams of cocaine.

He was taken into custody along with Quinones.

Rodriguez was charged with tampering with physical evidence, criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration, and criminal possession of a weapon.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Ulster County Jail.

Quinones was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. She was released on an appearance ticket.
