TOWN OF WALLKILL – Like many other communities across the region, the Town of Wallkill has seen a spike in crime over the last three years and local police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving them.

Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman told a session of the Police Community Council on Thursday evening that solving those offenses must be a collaborative effort.

“The police can’t solve this problem alone. We have a great partnership here with the Police Community Council and it is important for us to work with the community to define strategies to address these issues,” he said.

A three-person panel made up of Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler, the founder and president of Tri-County Community Partnership Annette Khars, and Professor Timothy Zeszutek of SUNY Orange addressed questions from attendees about the rise in crime.

In a continuing effort to fight crime, Town Supervisor Frank DenDanto said the town has just hired four police officers plus an additional detective and wants to “double the size” of the police department.
