MONTICELLO – Two Monticello Police officers saved a man who had gone into cardiac arrest while behind the wheel of his car.

On Thursday, September 30 just before 5 p.m., Officer Justin Dawson was on patrol and saw a vehicle that was stopped at a green light at the intersection of Broadway and Bank Street in the village.

The driver, a 62-year-old Monticello man, appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel.

Dawson found the driver to be unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

The officer and Lt. Mark Johnstone pulled the driver away from the car and performed CPR on him in the roadway.

When Medic EMS personnel arrived a few minutes later, the driver had regained a pulse and started taking breaths. He was taken to Garnet Catskill Medical Center in Harris for further medical care.

Also assisting at the scene was the Monticello Fire Department.
