GOSHEN – Some 650 t-shirts mark a clothesline at the Orange County Government Center in Goshen to recognize victims during Domestic Violence Month.

Since September 2004, 25 individuals have been murdered by their husbands or intimate partners in Orange County and two women are missing, but presumed dead, according to advocacy organization Fearless!

“The Clothesline Project is a powerful and sobering reminder of the devastating impact that domestic violence has in our communities,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus. “The project also allows us to show our support for domestic violence victims and their families.”

The Clothesline Project is comprised of t-shirts made by survivors of domestic violence or in honor of someone who has been a victim of violence. It is aimed at promoting awareness, but also helps the healing process for victims and those who have lost a loved one to violence.

“Every one of us plays a vital role in ending domestic violence and the commitment from Orange County government strengthens our coordinated efforts,” said Kellyann Kostyal-Larrier, executive director of Fearless!
