POUGHKEEPSIE – Funeral services for Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 6 at the Majed J. Nesheiwat Convention Center, 14 Civic Center Plaza in Poughkeepsie.

Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5 at the convention center.

The 72nd sheriff of Dutchess, Anderson passed away on September 29 at age 73.

He began his law enforcement career in 1970 when he was appointed as a deputy sheriff. After spending time in the Unform Patrol Division he was promoted to detective in 1974 and made part of the Major Case Squad, where his abilities and persistence brought several major investigations to successful conclusions.

Anderson was appointed undersheriff in 1993 and first elected sheriff in 1999. He won re-election in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2016.

Due to the large number of attendees expected, combined with the ceremonial procedures taking place, traffic delays should be expected in the Hooker Avenue, Market Street and arterial areas of Poughkeepsie on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Those not attending the services are urged to use alternate routes to avoid delays during those times.
