LAGRANGE – The Arlington Central School District has identified the 16-year-old that was stabbed and subsequently died after an incident at the high school Friday night.

Quraan Smith of Poughkeepsie was mortally wounded during a large brawl on the school’s campus Friday night.  The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. after a football game between Arlington and Scarsdale high schools.  Police agencies from the State Police, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, East Fishkill, Wappingers Falls, Town of Poughkeepsie, and City of Poughkeepsie were needed at the school to restore order.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18-year-old Poughkeepsie resident and former Arlington student Nestor Ortiz-Ocampo at the scene and have charged him with Manslaughter.

A statement from Arlington High School PTSA on Saturday said in part “Quraan’s death is a tragic event for the entire Arlington community.”  The PTSA also informed the community what to expect in the coming days.  “There will be additional police presence and security at Arlington High School next week.”
