POUGHKEEPSIE – Golfers in the sold-out City of Poughkeepsie PBA golf tournament at McCann Memorial Golf Course unknowingly had a golf legend taking their first putt for them on the 18th green on Monday.  Michael O’Keefe, better known as Danny Noonan, the caddie from the 1980 iconic movie ‘Caddyshack’ was on the green to meet all of the golfers and take their first putt.

O’Keefe spent the day with nearly 150 golfers that came out to support the Poughkeepsie city cops in their annual fundraiser.  Through a friendship with his Ulster County neighbor, Officer Mike Braren, O’Keefe showed up early on Monday with autographed memorabilia from the movie that included Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray, and donated them to the tournament to raise money for the Dutchess County 10-13 Foundation.  O’Keefe would meet each foursome on the green and take their first putt, and then walk off the green with them for photos.  Braren was selling raffle tickets for the memorabilia, which resulted in more than $1,000 being raised for the DC 10-13 Foundation.

Jeremy Phillips, associated with Zeus Brewing Company, was thrilled to have O’Keefe take the putt for him.  “ESPN has called Caddyshack one of the best sports movies of all time and I agree.  To have the legendary caddie take the putt for us was just too funny.  He even held the flag when it was my turn.  He’s funny and down to earth.”

“It was an easy ‘yes’ when Mike asked me to come over and support the PBA and the 10-13 Foundation,” said O’Keefe.  “I’ve always appreciated law enforcement and the guys and girls that put their lives on the line – same with our firefighters.  We owe our safety to them.”

O’Keefe is still in the Hollywood business, including the portrayal of Ulster County Sheriff Travis Laughton in the Netflix film ‘Things Heard & Seen‘ which was released in April of this year.  “I’ve really been fortunate in my career and I am glad to be able to support the efforts of the police.”

Braren is one of the City of Poughkeepsie officers assigned to the Community Policing Division and was thankful for his neighbor’s support.  “On behalf of myself and the PBA, I would like to thank Michael O’Keefe for taking the time to spend the day with us. The golfers were thrilled to have him here and he helped raise money for a great cause, DC 10-13.”
