Shots fired near high school on Monday

MOUNT VERNON – City police are investigating an incident of “shots fired” near the Mount Vernon High School.  The incident occurred On Monday, September 13, 2021, shortly before 3:30 PM, according to police.

Police responded to the report of shots fired in the area of the school on California Road on Monday. Officers interviewed several parties that stated shots were fired from a passing vehicle.  Detectives were able to locate surveillance video that showed parts of the incident, which apparently involved at least two vehicles.

Detectives have located one vehicle that was struck by the gunfire and are attempting to interview any witnesses. This incident took place just a few hundred feet away from where students were being dismissed from school for the day.
