WESTBROOKVILLE – State Police have released the identity of a man who shot at them from an abandoned trailer on the Sullivan-Orange County line on Sunday afternoon as Patrick Hermanowski, 39, of Westbrookville.

He remains in Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill having been shot by a trooper when he opened fire on them from inside the trailer just before 3 p.m.

The incident began as a domestic dispute with a report that he had discharged a firearm inside a home.

He fled into a wooded area and took cover in the abandoned Air Stream trailer and as two troopers approached, he opened fire at them. They returned fire, wounding Hermanwski, and taking him into custody and transported to the hospital with-non-life-threatening injuries.

A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene.

Charges are pending as the case is under investigation by the State Police and Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
