NEW YORK – New York’s new lieutenant governor, former State Senator Brian Benjamin from Harlem, was sworn in on Thursday and immediately tasked by Governor Kathy Hochul with working on three pressing issues.

Benjamin will work to convince more people to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“We can’t just have more commercials. We can’t just sort of keep screaming at people. We’ve got to sit down with people. We’ve got to talk to them. We have to understand their perspective and we have to deal with some of the distrust,” he said.

Benjamin will also play a role in making sure renters, small landlords, and works who have been struggling because of COVID receive financial support.

And he will also work to secure more funding and faster repairs for people whose homes in New York City are in need of repairs for far too long.
