Head-on collision with entrapment leads to road closure

AMENIA – A head-on collision on South Amenia Road, between Kent and Benson Roads in Wassaic injured three people. It caused the road to be closed on Sunday evening.  According to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, South Amenia Road between Kent and Benson Roads is closed until at least 9:15 p.m.

The collision between the two vehicles occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on September 5.  Firefighters from the Wassaic Fire Company responded to the incident along with sheriff’s deputies and immediately called for additional assistance.

The first responders found passengers in both vehicles heavily entrapped.  One occupant was reported to have gone into traumatic arrest with life-threatening injuries.  The Wassaic firefighters, assisted by the Amenia and Dover fire departments, worked to remove the three victims.  The most serious patient was transported to Sharon Hospital in Connecticut.  Two additional injured passengers were rescued and transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

Sheriff’s patrol units are being assisted at the scene by sheriff’s detectives and their Crash Investigation Unit.  No additional information was available on Sunday evening.
