WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County has added six all-electric buses to its 325-bus fleet.

Each new bus is expected to save some 5,000 gallons of fuel per year compared to a traditional diesel bus.

The new vehicles include two 40-foot buses and four 35-foot buses.

They cost just under $1 million each with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority providing $326,357 per bus for four buses as part of the state’s $127.7 million allocation of the federal Volkswagen settlement.

The New York Power Authority is installing six electric vehicle charges in the bus depot to charge new vehicles.

The Bee-Line system currently operates 177 hybrid diesel-electric buses. The county is also in the process of procuring 106, 40-foot hybrid diesel-electric buses to be delivered in 2022. They will replace diesel buses.
