ALBANY – Juan Peinado, the man who is serving a life sentence for killing 12-year-old Danny Meyer of Maybrook in June 1996, will be spending at least another two years in state prison.

The parole board turned down his request for parole with the next opportunity to appear before the parole board in August 2023.

Montgomery Town Supervisor Brian Maher was among those who led the charge to keep Peinado behind bars.

“Together we engaged the community in a grassroots effort which led to over 5,000 petition signatures and hundreds of individual letters written to the New York State Parole Board and also having a candlelight vigil put together to remember Danny and also to continue to create some noise about the petition and the effort that we were making and we believe that had a tremendous impact on the parole board’s decision here. And while we are very pleased with the decision, we are still laser focused on the future to ensure we continue to make efforts to make sure that Danny’s killer remains in prison for the rest of his life,” Maher said.

The effort to keep Peinado in prison was brought to Maher’s attention by local residents Rhonda D’Auria and Shannon Malone, both of whom knew the Meyer family.

“The Town of Montgomery is an amazing community that always comes together when any family or individual is in need,” said Maher.
