Mount Vernon teen arraigned in shooting death of Sleepy Hollow man

WHITE PLAINS – An 18-year-old Mount Vernon man has been indicted on charges of manslaughter, criminal use and possession of a firearm, attempted assault and assault, all as felonies in connection with the shooting death of a 31-yeaer-old Sleepy Hollow man.

Westchester District Attorney Mariam Rocah said Emmanuel Valentin Perez faces from five to 25 years in state prison and 2 ½ to five years of post-release supervision if convicted.

On June 28 at about 9:30 p.m., Perez allegedly fatally shot Manuel Salazar during an argument at Margotta Courts Park in Sleepy Hollow. Salazar was pronounced dead at Westchester Medical Center.

A second victim, who also sustained a gunshot wound, was also taken to the

hospital, treated and released.

Sleepy Hollow Police arrested Perez on June 29 after interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video. The Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the FBI’s Westchester Safe Streets Task Force assisted in the investigation.
