POUGHKEEPSIE – Keith Potik will spend the next 30 years in prison for attempting to kill two Red Hook Police officers in November of 2019.

Potik, 26, a resident of Wappingers Falls, was sentenced to the lengthy prison term by Dutchess County Court Judge Edward McLoughlin on Friday, August 20.

Potik entered a guilty plea to two counts of attempted murder in June of this year.  He admitted to attempting to kill Red Hook Police Officers Sterritt and Telles when he shot at them with an unlawfully possessed .45 caliber handgun.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, he also pled guilty to two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Judge McLoughlin called Potik’s actions “incredibly reckless” at Friday’s sentencing.

Potik was involved in a civil dispute with another individual in November of 2019.  When police arrived and confronted Potik, he pulled the gun out and fired eight shots at the officers, missing both of them.
