Main Street gang assault sends victim to hospital

POUGHKEEPSIE – A person was beaten and stabbed repeatedly early Friday morning on the 500 block of Main Street.  Three suspects were arrested and are facing felony charges for the assault.

Police were patrolling Main Street at 1:00 a.m. on August 20, 2021, and saw three men chasing the victim.  The suspects tackled the man and began beating and stabbing him until the officers intervened.  The three men ran from the scene.  The officers gave chase, assisted by additional officers, including a K9 unit.  The suspects were apprehended a short time later.

 Police say the victim was transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital with multiple severe but non-life-threatening stab wounds to the back. Crime Scene Technicians and Detectives responded to the scene and hospital to collect evidence and conduct interviews.
Police have charged 21-year-old Wynton Horton with the felonies of Assault and Gang Assault. Jahmy Hodges, 19, and 21-year-old Tyshom Cherry were both charged with felony Gang Assault.
Additionally, Horton was found to have an active warrant for Assault out of Myrtle Beach, SC. All suspects were processed and held for arraignment. The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
The Town Of Poughkeepsie Police Department assisted with call response while multiple city units were dispatched to this incident.
