ALBANY- All healthcare workers in New York State will be required to vaccinated against COVID-19 by Monday, September 27, Governor Cuomo announced on Monday. He said the administration of incoming Governor Kathy Hochul was briefed prior to the announcement.

The State Heath Department will issue orders requiring all hospital, long-term care facilities, and nursing homes to develop and implement a policy mandating employee vaccinations with limited exceptions for those with religious or medical reasons.

To date 75 percent of the state’s 145,500 hospital workers, 74 percent of the state’s 30,000 adult care facility workers, and 68 percent of the state’s nursing home worker have completed their vaccine series.

New cases of COVID-19, particularly because of the Delta variant, have skyrocketed 3,575 new positive cases reported statewide on Sunday. There were 11 new deaths reported including one each in Orange and Westchester counties. Since the pandemic started, 43,259 people have died in New York.

The State Department of Health has also authorized a third COVID-19 dose for New Yorkers with compromised immune systems, following the CDC’s recommendation last week.
