NEW WINDSOR – State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor), a Republican candidate for Congress next year, Sunday blasted Washington for “the catastrophic failure of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and its fall to the Taliban.”

Schmitt said that, “After nearly 20 years of American sacrifice and valor to avenge the terrorist attacks on our nation the Biden administration has had a complete and total military and foreign policy failure in Afghanistan.”

He said Afghanis “who were our allies are being taken out of their homes and slaughtered. Women fear for their dignity and their lives.”

With the U.S. abandoning our embassy, “it’s only a matter of time before the Taliban flag flies over our American embassy. An action that is completely unacceptable and a disgrace to our nation in every regard.”

Schmitt said President Joe Biden and Intelligence Committee Member Sean Patrick Maloney “failed us and have shown how unfit they are to lead on matters of military and foreign policy.”

Schmitt hopes to challenge Maloney in November 2022.

Requests for comment Sunday afternoon about the Taliban situation from Maloney and fellow Democratic lawmaker, Antonio Delgado, were not answered.
