CLARKSTOWN – A Spring Valley man was killed in a two-car crash on the Thruway in the Town of Clarkston on Sunday morning.

State Police identified the victim as Rashid Hopson, 19, who was one of three back seat passengers in a car that struck the rear of another vehicle on the northbound highway at about 7:47 a.m.

Troopers said a 2015 Honda Accord, driven by Alon Forbes, 18, of the Bronx struck the rear of a 2016 Subaru Outback.  The Honda continued off the right shoulder, through a guide rail, coming to rest down a 40-foot embankment.

Forbes was treated and released from Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

The front seat passenger in the Honda, Ashawn Duncan, of Spring Valley, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Back seat passengers Jasear Hill, 19, of Brooklyn, and Anthony Oranvil, 18, of New City, were each treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the Subaru, Terri Kugler, 59, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, was not injured.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Clarkstown Police and firefighters, Troop F BCI and Collision Reconstruction Unit, as well as Thruway Maintenance.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
