POUGHKEEPSIE – Frank Pallett, owner of The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie passed away on August 11, 2021, after a brief illness hospitalized him more than a week ago.  Pallett is being mourned by family, friends, and musicians throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond.

A talented musician himself, Pallett had spent the entire pandemic making improvements to the theater that had been closed by COVID in March of 2020.  The economic losses suffered by the theater being closed were multiplied for Pallett who also owned a gym that was shuttered by COVID.  He was looking forward to the first live music show featuring several bands, including his own “Big Guns” on July 24.  Frank was hospitalized just days before the show and was never discharged.  He leaves behind a wife, Michelle, and two young daughters whom he cherished.

Tributes have flooded social media from all over the globe.  Described as a caring and generous man, the 20-year theater owner is being praised for giving a platform to many up-and-coming bands.  His longtime friend and Chance employee Mike Berretta said “Frank did so much for the Hudson Valley music community. He not only kept the legendary club alive, but he also gave local musicians- young and not so young, an opportunity to perform there- even through the desolate years of live music in the area.”  Pallett was also instrumental in helping local charities.  “Frank was always willing to open the theater and provide his phenomenal staff for the annual Foodstock concert that benefits Dutchess Outreach,” said Todd Bender, a board member for Dutchess Outreach.  “Frank was a truly genuine man whose passing has created an enormous void.”

The Chance Theater community was already mourning the recent passing of longtime lighting technician Bob Morf, a fixture at the venue.  Morf was killed in a motorcycle accident in June of this year.
